WHAT'S UP
THE NEXT GENERATION ISSUE

FUCK YOU ALL "WHO NEEDS TO GROW UP? ALL YOU DO IS LOSE YOUR INTEGRITY,
LOSE YOUR IDEALS, LOSE YOUR DRIVE."
Glen E. Friedman has been there,
done that, taken the picture. With a pedigree that includes links with
The Beastie Boys, Chuck D (below with Public Enemy) and Suicidal
Tendencies
at fledgling stages of their careers, his extraordinary story began as a
photographer with Skateboarder magazine at the ripe old age of 13. Now 31
and based in NY, the spirit of Glen's work is perfectly captured in the
title of the exhibition, Fuck You All (Jan 25-Feb2 at the ICA, London), an
essential youth cultural documentfrom the American underground. When Glen
produced his first book of photographs, Fuck You Heroes in '94, Ice-T
enthused "Friedman's were the very first images of rap across America".
This exhibition ties in with the launch of his second book, Fuck You Too,
which he hopes will "shed more light and a not so critical eye on some
other people I have seen". His work is a testament to the rise of some
of the artists that have changed the face of music forever; highlighting
15 years of modern mayhem, social disorder and increasingly accelerated
pop culture. "The bottom line," says Henry Rollins about the man who
directed the first Black Flag video, "is that he was there at the
beginning of so much cool stuff in so many different ares it's not
funny."
