Skateboarders and
Rappers
Much like Public Enemy's nearly silent DJ, Terminator X, youth
movement photographer extraordinaire Glen E. Friedman speaks with his
hands. For those familiar (or unfamiliar) with Friedman's contributions
to Skateboarder in the mid-1970s, Fuck You Too, the Extras + More
Scrapbook - the follow-up to his 1995 hardcover Fuck You Heroes - is a
pleasant Saturday morning study of Friedman's flashed hall of fame.
Glen's eyes know the down-low front line well; his flicks document
nearly 20 years of balls-out-skateboarders (Jay Adams, Mark "Gator"
Rogowski), chaotic punk rock bands (Bad Brains, Reagan Youth), and
mike-gripping MCs (Ultramagnetic MCs, Ice-T, Beastie Boys). Both Fuck You
volumes are living textbooks devoted to these three important revolutions
of the 20th century. And, shit! Who can front on a textbook that has
Run-D.M.C. sportin' Lees and Adidas shell toes on its cover?
